Dolly’s Story
Dolly came to Luvin Arms in December 2023 with her sisters, Betty, Greenie, Eartha, Vinny, and Choroki, after members of our Executive Director’s extended family no longer wanted to care for them. The hens had been living in a backyard flock, and the family had considered abandoning them. Our ED had made her opposition to how they were treating the chickens clear, and her family knew she did not support their decisions.
Before the hens were left behind, the family reached out directly to our ED, and all six came to Luvin Arms. Their story reminds us that advocating for animals sometimes means having difficult conversations with people close to us. These girls depended on their caregivers, and they needed a home where that responsibility would be taken seriously.
The sisters settled into a flock with Squint, a rooster who shares their home. They enjoy exploring together and have grown comfortable in the sanctuary. Choroki passed away in 2024, and she remains part of their story.
Dolly often watches what’s happening from a little distance alongside Eartha. She is interested in new enrichment and enjoys spending time in the nest boxes, though she is just as happy heading outdoors to explore. Learning these preferences is part of caring for Dolly as an individual. She has a lifelong home alongside her sisters, where her relationships matter, and her care will continue as she grows older.
