Astrid’s Story
Astrid was one of 610 chickens rescued from a Colorado farm described as humane and free-range, where the birds were being raised for their flesh. When the farm went bankrupt, the chickens were left without adequate food or heat during the winter. They were starving and freezing, and some had resorted to cannibalism to survive.
Volunteers came together to bring the birds to safety. Twelve, including Astrid, found a home at Luvin Arms, while the others went to sanctuaries and homes across the country. Their experience reminds us that labels like “humane” and “free-range” do not guarantee an individual animal’s safety or lifelong care.
Today, Astrid’s spunky personality comes through in how she spends her days. She loves to run around and stay active, and her antics give us plenty of reasons to smile. At Luvin Arms, she has a lifelong home where she can explore and receive the food, shelter, and individual care she depends on.
