Story:
This handsome fellow’s journey to the sanctuary was not an easy one, but thanks to a compassionate community member, he was given a second chance. After his original caregiver moved to Mexico, he was rehomed to a new flock. Unfortunately, the other chickens didn’t accept him, and his caretakers decided to have him slaughtered. Thankfully, someone stepped in just in time to bring him to us, and now he’ll have the forever home he deserves.
Diego has corneal ulcers in both eyes, likely caused by trauma or exposure to high ammonia levels in a previous environment. While there are no active ulcers, he has limited vision—mainly out of the back of his right eye and possibly shadows in his left. He also lacks depth perception, but he’s otherwise in good condition (and a little chunky for his breed).
What truly makes this rooster special, though, is his sweet and spirited personality. He loves to greet each morning with enthusiastic crows that echo across the sanctuary as if he’s welcoming the new day with gratitude for being alive. Despite his past hardships and limited vision, he is incredibly gentle and seems to enjoy soaking up all the love and attention!
