Avian Flu Preparedness

We Are Still Protecting Our Birds From Avian Flu and Need Your Help

Avian flu is back in Colorado.

And while outbreaks may come and go, one thing at Luvin Arms never changes. Our avian residents are here for life.

One of these beloved birds is Lucine. Lucine came to Luvin Arms after an intense rescue of over 600 chickens from a bankrupt farm where they were starving and freezing. Lucine had a severe injury and infection that required her wing to be amputated, and thanks to compassionate care, she healed and now spends her days in peace and safety with her flock.

Birds like Lucine cannot escape danger on their own. They depend entirely on us to keep them safe.

Recent outbreaks of H5N1 in Colorado have once again put sanctuaries, farms, and animal caregivers on high alert. The virus continues to affect wild birds, domestic poultry, mammals, and humans. State officials have issued emergency responses as cases increase across the Front Range.

For sanctuaries like Luvin Arms, this reality requires constant readiness.

We are asking for your help to raise $10,000 to strengthen and sustain critical biosecurity measures that protect our rescued birds and the entire sanctuary community.

In a sanctuary setting, rescued birds and wildlife naturally coexist. While we cannot eliminate all risk, we can and must reduce it through rigorous protocols, proper equipment, and vigilant care.

Your support allows us to implement and maintain:

• Enhanced biosecurity infrastructure, including foot baths, boot brushes, and controlled entry points
• Personal protective equipment for staff and caregivers working with avian residents
• Expanded cleaning and disinfection of barns, tools, and shared spaces
• Increased daily monitoring and rapid response for any signs of illness
• Emergency veterinary preparedness should intervention be required

This work is not optional. It is the cost of keeping our promise to animals who have already survived so much.

Avian flu may be here to stay. So are Lucine and the ducks, chickens, turkeys, and pea fowl who call Luvin Arms home. They rely on us to be prepared not just during emergencies, but every day.

Your gift today directly protects lives.

Thank you for standing with animals when prevention matters most. Because of you, sanctuary remains a place of safety, stability, and care.
