Alfie has been part of Luvin Arms since we opened in 2015. Today, he is recovering from emergency surgery and facing a new complication: pneumonia. His condition remains serious, and we need to raise $10,000 now to help cover his medical care. With continued treatment and follow-up appointments ahead, we know that won’t be the final amount needed.
If you’ve met Alfie, you probably remember him. At 11 years old, he’s the handsome, confident leader of our goat herd, with strong opinions and very little hesitation about expressing them. He also has a gentle side that those he trusts know well. He’s been a constant here through nearly every chapter of Luvin Arms, and it’s hard to see him hurting.
Earlier this week, our care team found Alfie lethargic, refusing food, and straining painfully to urinate. They took him to the vet right away. Testing confirmed multiple stones blocking his urethra, the passage that carries urine out of the body. He was transferred to Colorado State University for emergency surgery.
The procedure took approximately four hours. Surgeons removed the stones from his urethra and bladder, making three incisions to clear the blockages. He now has a tube connected to his bladder to help him urinate while he heals. He is expected to need it for several weeks.
We were relieved that the stones had been removed. But Alfie still has a difficult recovery ahead, and the pneumonia has added another serious concern. His veterinary team caught it quickly and increased his antibiotics. He continues to need close monitoring, pain management, and ongoing treatment as we wait to see how he heals.
