This past month, we have welcomed 23 amazing new residents to the Luvin Arms family! We are so happy to be joined by the “Sanctuary Seers”, 19 hens rescued from a CSA farm; Leo, Frida, and Salvador, our new donkey residents; and Samantha, the cow!
Nineteen young hens were rescued from a CSA farm where they were going to be killed because their egg production was diminishing. Thankfully, we were able to rescue them and bring them home to Luvin Arms!
These girls are super sweet and curious, and once we are sure they are healthy and ready to meet the roosters, the integration will begin! The emotional wellbeing of our residents is just as important as their physical wellbeing and we are excited to bring our hens and roosters together.
Leo, Frida, and Salvador, the donkeys, were all desperately in need of love, care, and medical attention. They all have severe cases of laminitis and we are doing everything we can to give them the specialized diets and medical care they need to recover.
These three are a sweet family, and we’re so happy we were able to keep them together and give them a better life. They’re still pretty shy and nervous around people, but they’re very sweet and beginning to trust us!
We have been wanting a friend for Marley Rose, the cow for a while as we could tell she was feeling lonely. A nearby dairy farm had a young female calf that they were willing to give up for a life at the sanctuary, where she could live out her life in love, peace and happiness. This sweet calf is named Samantha.
She’s just 9 days younger than Marley and still a little nervous around people, but we can tell these girls are kindred spirits. Marley and Samantha will soon have the companionship they have been missing since the separation from their mothers and the loss of their brothers. We’re so excited to bring these sweet girls together, stay tuned for more updates on Samantha and Marley!
