The Year of the Horse Begins with Velvet’s Rescue
This is Velvet.
Velvet is a 30-year-old Thoroughbred Arabian with one of the gentlest spirits we have ever met. For most of her life, she was deeply loved by a young girl who rode and competed with her in English riding competitions. They grew up together. They trusted each other. They built a bond that defined Velvet’s world.
When that young rider left for college, Velvet was cared for by an aging owner..

Her owner tried his best, but caring for a senior horse requires daily attention, specialized nutrition, and veterinary support that can quickly become overwhelming. At some point, Velvet also lost her foal, who was sadly found deceased in the pasture. After that loss, Velvet stopped eating and began to decline.
She arrived at Luvin Arms grieving and in need of consistent care. The veterinarian was amazed by her overall health. She still moves with the grace of a much younger horse. Her teeth are strong. Her hooves are healthy. Her spirit is still very much alive.
Now she just needs time, nutrition, medical support, and the opportunity to heal with her new friends Jale and Niblet.
We are working to raise $15,000 to support Velvet’s rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong sanctuary care.
Your support helps provide:
• Specialized senior feed and supplements to restore weight and muscle
• Ongoing veterinary care and arthritis management
• Safe housing and herd integration with equine companions
• Daily monitoring, enrichment, and emotional rehabilitation
• Lifelong sanctuary where Velvet will never be alone again
Senior horse rescues carry an extraordinary impact.
Horses are often working partners for decades. When they age or become unable to perform, many are sold, neglected, or sent into the slaughter pipeline. Providing sanctuary for senior horses like Velvet honors their years of service, restores dignity, and ensures they can live out their lives surrounded by care and safety.
Today, recognized in many traditions as the Year of the Fire Horse, Velvet’s story feels especially meaningful. This new year symbolizes resilience, endurance, healing, and second chances. It reminds us to honor animals who have given their strength and loyalty throughout their lives.
Velvet embodies that spirit.
With your help, this chapter of her life will be defined by comfort, companionship, and peace.
Will you help us raise $15,000 to support Velvet’s care and welcome her into sanctuary life?
Thank you for standing with animals who deserve dignity in every stage of life. Because of you, Velvet’s story is changing from loss to belonging.
