Story:
Krishna was rescued from a beef ranch in Colorado in the fall of 2025. We first received a call from the rancher’s wife about a young calf with dwarfism who was at risk of being sent to auction. In the beef industry, calves with conditions like dwarfism are often considered “unproductive” and are frequently killed at a young age.
When our team arrived, the calf had been separated from his mother, and both were calling out in distress. It was heartbreaking to witness, and we knew we couldn’t allow them to be separated forever. After several emotional conversations with the rancher’s wife, we were able to rescue both the calf and his mom, whom we named Krishna and Miraa.
After a lifesaving surgery, and receiving intensive, around-the-clock care, Krishna’s body became too tired to keep fighting. While he showed some response to treatment, his kidneys could not tolerate more, and despite every effort, we were not able to turn things around.
He showed us what it means to keep going, even when things are hard. He was gentle, determined, and full of quiet strength.
He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He will forever be missed.
