Nan’s connection with Luvin Arms began when she discovered the sanctuary online. A lifelong animal lover, she was looking for an opportunity to become involved with animals in a meaningful way and quickly found that Luvin Arms was a place where she could do just that.
Some of Nan’s favorite sanctuary memories have come from spending time with the donkeys, including taking them for walks and helping them learn to wear their halters comfortably. Leo, in particular, has stolen her heart. She loves his intelligence, how quickly he learned clicker play, and his ability to make his preferences very clear when there is something he doesn’t like. Arya also holds a special place in Nan’s heart and never fails to greet her with a “hello” when she visits.
Nan especially enjoys observing the potbelly pigs and getting to know their very different personalities. Pumpkin has impressed her with how quickly he learns, while Zena and Tromboncino have shown her their sweet and gentle sides, and Wednesday is always ready to show just how fast she can be.
Through these relationships, Nan wishes more people understood that farmed animals are individuals, each with their own personality, temperament, preferences, and ways of communicating. She has also seen firsthand just how intelligent they are, something she believes is too often underestimated.
Outside of her time at Luvin Arms, Nan enjoys cooking and traveling. She even brings her love of cooking to the sanctuary, where she enjoys preparing meals for the residents and, of course, delivering them herself.
