Michelle has been part of the Luvin Arms community since 2018. Her journey began with a tour of the sanctuary, where meeting the residents up close made an immediate impact. By the very next day, she had signed up to volunteer and made the transition from vegetarian to vegan. What began with that first visit has grown into years of dedicated involvement with a community she describes as quirky, hardworking, loving, and deeply committed to the residents.
Over the years, Michelle has contributed to the sanctuary in many ways, with particular interests in preparing food for the residents, maintaining facilities, and working on construction projects. She loves helping fellow volunteers find ways to get involved and is always happy to connect someone with a project where their skills and interests can make a difference.
When Michelle first began volunteering, she was certain she was a “goat person.” It didn’t take long for the sheep to change her mind. They quickly found their way into her heart, especially Jared, with whom she formed an incredibly meaningful bond. Her relationship with him became one of the many examples of just how deeply the residents can shape the lives of the people who have the opportunity to know them.
Michelle wishes everyone could experience firsthand how easily farmed animals can capture our hearts through their unique personalities, affection, and the ways they connect with others. She believes they are sentient individuals deserving of protection, respect, and care, and sees her involvement at Luvin Arms as much more than simply volunteering. For Michelle, it is a calling.
Outside of the sanctuary, Michelle brings the same enthusiasm to a wide range of interests. She enjoys playing pickleball, dancing in Zumba classes, singing in a choir, and gardening on a large scale, and she is always happy to share those passions with others in the Luvin Arms community.
