Patience Ramsey has loved animals deeply for as long as she can remember. She has always found ways to care for animals in need, from rescuing strays as a child to adopting pets from shelters as an adult.

In the early 1990s, Patience took significant steps toward becoming a veterinarian. She completed all the necessary preparatory courses and gained hands-on experience by volunteering and working at veterinary hospitals in the Virginia and Washington, DC, area. There, she supported general animal care, lab work, chronic disease management, and surgical procedures. After relocating to Colorado in the early 2000s, she continued this work until professional demands requiring extensive travel prompted her to step back.

Patience returned to volunteering in 2010 at Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Longmont, Colorado, where she primarily cared for squirrels and birds, from babies to adults, ready for release. She occasionally assisted with raccoons, waterfowl, foxes, and marmots and participated in specialized training sessions provided by experienced wildlife rehabilitators. Patience remained with Greenwood until 2012, when adopting a dog with severe separation anxiety required her full attention.

In 2015, Patience responded to a volunteer call for what would become Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary. She has been deeply involved since its first day, dedicating her Saturday mornings to animal care and enrichment activities. Over the years, her contributions have included building fences, setting up structures, fundraising, education outreach, and supporting strategic initiatives. Patience cherishes the special opportunity to watch many sanctuary residents grow from young animals to beloved seniors.

Patience became a vegetarian in 1990 after her aunt adopted a turkey from Farm Sanctuary. Later, her experiences at Luvin Arms opened her eyes to the realities of the dairy and egg industries, prompting her to embrace veganism fully. The sanctuary has significantly influenced her beliefs and choices, leading her to form deep and lasting connections with animals and people.

Patience feels incredibly fortunate to be part of the Luvin Arms community, seeing it grow from a small, volunteer-run operation to an inspiring sanctuary that influences others. Her involvement has given her cherished friendships and countless life-changing experiences with the sanctuary’s residents, making her deeply grateful for every moment.
