Kate Fitzpatrick is a wildlife artist and muralist. She first came to Luvin Arms on a Compassion Tour, which led to her becoming a volunteer and eventually a tour guide. She often has a booth with her artwork at the Sanctuary’s annual Spring and Fall Fests. A CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), Kate is fluent in ASL and working towards becoming a certified ASL interpreter.
When not at the Sanctuary, Kate paints, reads, or spends time with her wonderful partner Bobby and their three animals: cats Leslie Knope and Tim Riggins and dachshund Petey.
Favorite Memory
My favorite resident memory happened on a tour I was leading with a group of middle schoolers. When visiting the potbelly pigs, I always make sure to give the grown-ups plenty of space since they are still getting used to us. On this particular tour, I was showing the students how to approach the pigs to see if they wanted a belly rub. I was petting one of the babies when suddenly, Mississippi came over and plopped down right next to me, wanting a belly rub! Seeing that she felt safe and comfortable enough to solicit affection from us humans meant so much. She even let some of the students pet her, too! It’s incredible to see her growth in such a short time.
