Amanda’s journey started in 2023 with a date night tour that blossomed into a full-blown romance between her and Luvin Arms! The safe and loving atmosphere throughout the sanctuary was undeniable. As the child who often brought animals home for her parents to help her save, this was a dream. Her fate was sealed, and she became a volunteer assisting in cleanup, produce donations, and general support.
Her mission was to realign life after a decade of working in the trenches of mental health and homelessness as a psychotherapist and brain injury specialist. The empathic work combined with significant personal medical illness led to a desire for lifestyle change. The profoundly beautiful interactions with the residents have been among her most healing and uplifting moments. Witnessing the emergence of new advocates while working among like-minded changemakers is incredibly gratifying. Giving to Luvin Arms has given back tenfold! It’s a testament to the profound impact of animal sanctuaries and exemplifies the transformative power of Ahimsa.
When not at Luvin Arms, Amanda can often be found in her happy place in the mountains, backcountry camping with her husband and two rescue pups. Her interests also extend to sustainability practices, mental health awareness, and disability advocacy.
Memory
One cherished memory that comes to mind involves our wonderfully majestic Alfie. At first glance, he’s a tough guy with big horns who is known to give an occasional spicy headbutt. I was a little uneasy the first time we interacted alone. A few visits later, I was honored when he asked for more affection by vulnerably resting his head in my hands. I melted just as he did. The juxtaposition of so much power meeting so much gentleness is something that has my utmost respect. He’s a kind soul inside a powerful package who I’m lucky to call my buddy!
